Life is Life

I find that as a teacher one of the problems is you can get stuck in your own way. Since we are always planning out our unit plans down to the specific lesson, if something happens that derails that plan we have to reevaluate the whole process. So when we plan something and then it does not work out because the students don't do the work, it can be frustrating. I have been guilty in the past of overvaluing my own assignments or coursework and not realizing that while they are central to my view of the class, for the students there are many other things going on.

This is one aspect I have really enjoyed about my doing my Masters online with Acadia, that I have the freedom to pick it up when I have time and then when life gets busy not feel pressured to work on it. I probably think about this course every other day but life has gotten in the way the last several weeks. I have been able to make progress on the other two courses I am taking because they are more traditional read and write based courses. As such, I can read a chapter or two when on a bus, having a 30-minute coffee break, or at various points of the day. Yet for this course, I need time when I can sit on the computer and play around with the new technology.

This all relates to the motto I have that 'Life is Life', essentially that we can not always plan it out and at different points, there are different things that take priority. I hope that with my continuing knowledge of technology I can create resources online for my students whereby they are easily able to catch up or get ahead or follow along if life gets in the way and they are unable to attend class. It could even be that the student is in class but their mind is somewhere else for whatever reason.

For me, I have had Module 2 Assignment 2 and Module 3 Assignment 1 and 2 done in my head for a while but have not found the time to post about them. For both, I used the new technology and found that I was pretty proud of myself for figuring it all out.
